It Was a Father & Son Celebration Sunday Night at Eriez Speedway

Hammett, PA
June 23, 2013

The weather was hot, temperature in the upper eighties, but the racing was hotter with tight action in each event. Max and Rob Blair once again accomplished the Father/Son perfect night on a race night that had been postponed from Father’s Day, each winning both their heat and feature events and leading every lap along the way.

The FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series visited Eriez Speedway for a $2000 to win feature. Nineteen Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models started the 30-lap Northeast Touring Series feature with Matt Latta, a tour winner in 2012 on the pole and Chad Wright, a winner at Eriez earlier in the season and the current points leader outside.

At the end of lap one it was reigning national champion and current Northeast leader Max Blair holding the lead. Khole Wanzer spun sideways in turn one at lap three, collecting Al Brewer for the first caution of the event. On the restart it was Blair inside with Latta outside the front row but Wayne Robertson came to second by the end of the lap and Wright was third a lap later.

Wanzer got his second charged caution at lap six allowing Robertson to be alongside Blair for the restart. At five to go Blair led Robertson by only a car-length in traffic but Robertson could not mount a challenge. At the end, in traffic, Robertson was right on Blair’s rear bumper but Blair was the winner. Kyle Zimmerman and Bobby Rohrer both got by Wright to finish third and fourth with Wright falling to fifths at the finish.

Rob Blair made it a Father and Son celebration after following his son to the Winner’s Circle in the super late model feature event.

Rob Blair and Matt Urban brought the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models to Spanky Hall’s green flag with Blair blasting into the lead and second row starting Chris Hackett coming to second by one lap complete. At the end of three Dave Hess was third.

At halfway Blair had a quarter-lap lead over Hackett with Hess another two car-lengths behind in third. Scott Gurdak looped his mount at lap fourteen, erasing Blair’s lead but when green was again displayed he immediately began building it again. Andy Boozel came by Hess for third at fifteen laps in and was second at eighteen laps.

Blair continued to lengthen his lead until the checkers flew. Boozel wound up second. Hess was alongside Hackett most of the final three laps but Hackett prevailed for third. After Hess, Urban was fifth.
